Pacific Rim Real Estate Society Achievement Award

1998 PRRES Achievement Award
Emeritus Professor Tom Whipple and to Professor Graeme Newell

The Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) is proud to acknowledge Professor Tom Whipple as the joint 1998 recipient of the PRRES Achievement Award.

This is the highest honour that PRRES can bestow on one of its members and is in recognition of the outstanding contribution by Tom Whipple to property education and research in the Pacific-Rim.

With over 32 years of leadership in property education and research at both the University of Sydney and Curtin University, Tom is one of the founding fathers of property education and research in Australia.

Having establishing post-graduate programs in property at the University of Sydney in 1969, Tom has published extensively in leading international property journals such as the Journal of Property Finance, Land Development Studies and Journal of Property Valuation and Investment. His research contribution has been over a wide range of areas, including valuation and property development.

In addition, Tom has published leading texts in commercial rent reviews, valuation reporting standards and property development. His text on property valuation and analysis is a leading learned text, widely used in property education throughout Australian and New Zealand universities.

With his property industry background, Tom has had strong linkages into the property professions via BOMA, AIVLE and NZIV. He was also the first Australian property academic to actively participate in the USA and UK property environments, regularly visiting on sabbatical and visiting professor appointments; as well as more recently, initiating property courses in Asia.

Many property academics, including Patrick Rowland and Greg Costello, have greatly benefited from Tomıs guidance throughout their property education and research careers.

PRRES is pleased to award the PRRES Achievement Award to Professor Tom Whipple in recognition of his many outstanding achievements in property education and research.
