PhD Colloquium

Continuing on from the success of the Postgraduate Colloquium at the PRRES conference last year, we are scheduling a Postgraduate Colloquium to be held on Sunday, 13th January 2013 at the RMIT University in Melbourne. The aim of this colloquium is to provide an opportunity for postgraduate students in property to discuss and present their postgraduate work-in-progress in a supportive and non-confrontational environment to a group of senior academics and peers.

In addition, senior academics will be invited to contribute to plenary sessions discussing such topics as ‘Publishing your PhD’ and ‘making the most of your postgraduate experience’. This year, if there is sufficient interest a workshop will be run in the morning covering key interest areas for all research students; the afternoon will then focus on students who wish to present and are more advanced in their studies.

The colloquium caters for students throughout their candidature, from those who are nearly complete to those just thinking and mapping out their ideas for research. There are experienced academics on hand to provide feedback to students presenting their research at all stages. The focus of the colloquium is to provide an opportunity for developing academics to present their ideas and research in a supportive environment.

The overall objective is to promote excellence in postgraduate research throughout the region. In order to encourage postgraduate students to participate, we are pleased to announce the availability of two scholarships up to the value of $A1500 each, available to higher degree research students (Masters or PhD in the property area) completing a postgraduate research degree as a full time student at a University in the broad PRRES catchment
area. The scholarship is to be applied towards the costs of: Conference Registration (at the postgrad level), airfares to the Conference from the winning student’s University location and 3/4 night’s accommodation at the main Conference hotel (Sunday to Tuesday and possibly Wednesday depending on the student’s travel arrangements). The successful student will be paid the scholarship in advance of the Conference on completion of registration. The scholarship will be awarded based on the strength of the submitted (up to 3 pages) research summary required for the Postgraduate Colloquium. (Please note to be eligible for the scholarship a written
submission is required in addition to presenting on the day and also having a paper in the main conference).

We would encourage  postgraduate students to submit a research summary to Georgia Warren-Myers g.warrenmyers@deakin.edu.au by no later than the 30th October 2012 and register for the 2013 PRRES Conference (the registration fee for students is $ AUD95.00, registration includes PRRES membership for 2013 and main conference activities except for the Conference Dinner and Welcome Reception).

The student registration fee is only available to postgraduate students who are:
- a full time student;
- undertaking a Masters or PhD degree (by research or coursework); and
- presenting a property related paper at the conference (which may be refereed or non-refereed).
